SHSU’s Counseling program and professors are passionate about educating and training the best counselors. Their standards are high and I am proud to be a graduate. I took 60 credit hours in a 48 hour program. SHSU Is a nationally accredited CACREP program that provides recognition that the content and quality of the school’s program has been evaluated and meets and exceeds standards set by the profession.
Additional coursework: Community Counseling, Addictions Counseling, Counseling in Higher Education, Sexual Concerns and School Counseling. This with other research and workshops gives me a broader base for helping you with your concerns; whether it’s academic, relationship, personal, career, developmental or other issues.
LPC: Licensed Professional Counselor in Alabama (#3109)
Counselors must be licensed by each state’s licensing board as a protection for you. They set high standards so that when you choose to see a counselor, you can be sure we are qualified. There are extensive ethical rules and laws that we must follow in working with the citizens of the state. Each state has a procedure for you to report problems you may have with your counselor. To see what is required look at:
Alabama Board of Examiners in Counseling http://www.abec.alabama.gov/CA
NCC: National Board Certified Counselor #260460
I am certified by NBCC the National Board for Certified Counselors, created to enhance the professional identity of National Certified Counselors and provide national standards for the education and credentialing of counselors. There is no national licensing body for counselors; each state creates its own rules and regulations. NBCC provides one more measure of assurance that you are getting a qualified counselor. To check to see if your counselor is credentialed, go to http://www.nbcc.org/verify.
